Apple Maps Ads Are Here, and There's No Way to Turn Them Off

25 Augustus 2026 om 23:13
Ads in Apple Maps are live in the United States and Canada, which means iPhone and iPad users will see them when searching for locations and when viewing Suggested Places.

Apple announced plans to bring ads to the Maps app in March, and said the feature would roll out starting in late summer. Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac that ads began showing up for users over the last few days, with ad placement to ramp up in the coming weeks.

Ads are shown in Suggested Places when initiating a search and after searching if a company has bought an ad for a keyword you're looking for. Ads are shown at the top of search results, with one ad per set of search results.

There is no option to turn off ads in the Maps app, but ads are clearly labeled with a blue "Ad" tag. Apple says ads you interact with in the Maps app are not associated with your Apple Account, and data is not shared with third parties.

Apple has been preparing to launch ads all summer, with signs of ads showing up in iOS 26 updates. Apple started allowing businesses to purchase ad slots in August, offering a 15 percent credit toward future ad spend as an incentive.

Ads for home services, bail bonds, and cryptocurrency ATMs are not allowed in the Maps app per Apple's Advertising Services policy. Ads that promote or reference medical services may be allowed, and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Maps ads also have to adhere to Apple's other advertising rules.

New Mac Mini and Mac Studio: 13 Things You Might Have Missed

25 Augustus 2026 om 20:41
Apple today announced new M6 and M5 Pro Mac mini models and M5 Max and M5 Ultra Mac Studio models. We've covered all of the announcements in-depth, but wanted to highlight some interesting tidbits about the new machines.

  • Price Increases - The Mac mini now starts at $899, $300 over the original starting price of the M4 Mac mini when it launched in October 2024. Mac Studio pricing starts at $2,499, $500 more than the original price of the M4 Max model when it came out in March 2025.

  • Connectivity - Apple upgraded the new Macs with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, so they are on par with the connectivity standards in the latest iPhone models. Wi-Fi 7 offers faster data speeds in the 6GHz band, lower latency, and an option to connect across 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz networks at once for reliability improvements.

  • Genlock - The โ€ŒMac miniโ€Œ and โ€ŒMac Studioโ€Œ support genlock over USB-C, so there's no need for a separate sync box. Genlock is used in multi-camera shoots and virtual production to lock timing to a shared reference signal. The Mac's display and the camera filming it are synchronized, preventing flickering and tearing from a mismatch between the display refresh rate and camera shutter. Apple previously added genlock support to the iPhone 17 Pro models, so now an โ€ŒiPhone 17 Proโ€Œ and one of the new Macs can work in tandem for pros who need the feature.

  • Ethernet - The โ€ŒMac miniโ€Œ now starts with 2.5Gb Ethernet instead of 1Gb. There's an option to upgrade to 10Gb, which is what the โ€ŒMac Studioโ€Œ starts with (same as the prior-generation model).

  • Neural Engine - The M6 chip has an upgraded Neural Engine with two 16-core engines instead of just one. Apple says the new Neural Engine offers 2x more peak compute so AI workflows run faster.

  • GPU - The M6 โ€ŒMac miniโ€Œ's 12-core GPU has Neural Accelerators in each core, offering up to 4x faster AI performance and 2x faster graphics than the โ€ŒM4 Mac miniโ€Œ. The โ€ŒMac Studioโ€Œ's M5 Ultra is also the first Ultra chip with Neural Accelerators. Peak AI compute performance is 4.3x the M3 Ultra's performance.

  • SSD - โ€ŒMac Studioโ€Œ storage is twice as fast with new SSD architecture built on PCIe Gen 6.

  • SSD Pricing - As Daring Fireball points out, upgrading a โ€ŒMac miniโ€Œ with a 2TB SSD costs $1,000, which is more than the $899 base price of the machine. Upgrading to the 4TB SSD for the M5 Pro costs $1,800, which is $100 over the price of the base machine.

  • Thunderbolt - The M6 โ€ŒMac miniโ€Œ continues to have Thunderbolt 4, not Thunderbolt 5. The M5 Pro model does have Thunderbolt 5.

  • Current Max Pricing - An M5 Pro โ€ŒMac miniโ€Œ with 18-core CPU, 64GB RAM, an 8TB SSD, and 10GbE is $6,799. The M5 Ultra โ€ŒMac Studioโ€Œ with 36-core CPU, 256GB RAM, and 16TB SSD is $18,299.

  • 512GB RAM - You can only buy the M5 Ultra with 96GB or 256GB of RAM right now, but a 512GB option is coming in late October. Since upgrading from 96GB RAM to 256GB RAM costs $4,000, the 512GB option will likely cost at least $6,000.

  • Announcement Timing - This is the first time Apple has announced new Macs in August since the 27-inch iMac debuted in August 2020.

  • macOS Golden Gate - When the new machines launch on September 22, they will likely have macOS Golden Gate installed. The software update is probably going to come out the week of September 14.

The new โ€ŒMac Studioโ€Œ and โ€ŒMac miniโ€Œ models can be pre-ordered starting today, and will be available on September 22.

Apple Smart Home Display Still Coming This Year

25 Augustus 2026 om 17:19
Apple remains on track to launch its first smart home device with a screen before the end of the year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Gurman reiterated that the device will use facial recognition to determine who is standing in front of it and serve up personalized content for that individual user. The description lines up with code found in macOS Tahoe 26.7 earlier this week, which revealed that the smart home hub will support multiple user profiles and use "ambient sensing" to verify identity. Apple is also readying a new Apple TV and an updated HomePod mini as part of the same renewed push into the home, according to Gurman.

Apple's smart home hub has been rumored for years. It is rumored to feature a square, seven-inch display with a front-facing camera, running an operating system closer to tvOS than iOS, with a home screen built around quick-access widgets. Pricing is expected to land somewhere around $350.

Apple originally intended to release the device in spring 2025, then targeted spring 2026, before pushing it back to September because Siri AI was not ready. Gurman reported over the weekend that Apple is rearranging sections of its retail stores to accommodate new smart home products.

Apple Quietly Refreshes Magic Keyboards

25 Augustus 2026 om 16:22
Apple today quietly introduced updated Magic Keyboard models with revised U.S. English key labeling.

On the new keyboards, the tab, caps lock, shift, return, and delete keycaps are labeled with glyphs rather than edge text. On the full-size models with a numeric keypad, the change goes further, with the home, page up, page down, end, clear, and enter keys also swapping their text labels for symbols.

Four models have been updated: the Magic Keyboard, the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, and the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad in both white keys and black keys.

The one U.S. English model Apple has not refreshed is the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, which lacks โ€ŒTouch IDโ€Œ and continues to use text labels on the same keys.

The change mirrors the one Apple made to its laptops earlier this year, when the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Neo adopted glyphs on the same set of keys.

Since the U.S. English layout is the default option in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, among other countries, the new labeling effectively extends well beyond the United States. Apple has used glyphs on its British English and other European layouts for some time, so the symbols will already be familiar to customers there.

Apple's New Mac Mini and Mac Studio Are Now Available to Pre-Order

25 Augustus 2026 om 15:45
Apple today announced a new Mac mini and Mac Studio, and pre-orders for both are already live on Apple's online store and in the Apple Store app in the United States and 30 other countries and regions.

Most configurations ship Tuesday, September 22, which is also when the new models will be available to buy in Apple Store locations and at Apple Authorized Resellers.

Both Mac mini models cost more than the machines they replace for reasons that should be familiar by now. The rapid buildout of AI data centers has pushed up demand for memory and storage chips across the tech industry, and Apple in June raised the M4 Pro Mac mini to $1,599, up from the $1,399 it launched at in October 2024. The M5 Pro version adds another $100 on top of that.

Model Starting price Education price Base memory/storage
Mac mini (M6) $899 $799 16GB / 256GB
Mac mini (M5 Pro) $1,699 $1,599 24GB / 512GB
Mac Studio (M5 Max) $2,499 $2,299 36GB / 512GB
Mac Studio (M5 Ultra) $5,499 $5,099 96GB / 1TB

The $899 M6 mini is $300 more than the M4 model's $599 original launch price, but only $100 more than the $799 that Apple re-priced it to in June. Education prices reflect Apple's discounts for schools and students.

The M5 Ultra-powered Mac Studio with 512GB of unified memory won't be available until late October, and Apple hasn't announced pricing for it yet.

Apple Debuts M5 Ultra as Most Powerful Chip Ever

25 Augustus 2026 om 15:12
Apple today announced the M5 Ultra, which the company says is its most powerful chip ever.

The M5 Ultra is built by connecting two dual-die M5 Max chips using Apple's next-generation UltraFusion technology, which is the first time Apple has used a quad-die architecture in an M-series chip. UltraFusion increases inter-die bandwidth to over 4.4TB/s and connection density by more than 6x, allowing the four dies to function as a single processor.

The chip includes an CPU with up to 36 cores, containing 12 super cores and 24 performance cores, delivering up to 1.25x higher single-threaded performance and up to 1.3x higher multithreaded performance than the M3 Ultra.

Its GPU scales up to 80 cores, with a Neural Accelerator built into each core for the first time on an Ultra chip. Apple says this delivers up to 4.3x the peak AI compute performance compared to the M3 Ultra, along with up to 1.8x faster graphics than the previous-generation chip.

The M5 Ultra also includes a 32-core Neural Engine and a more capable Media Engine, with twice the video encode and decode blocks as M5 Max, allowing users to simultaneously play up to 33 streams of 8K ProRes 422 at 30 fps.

The chip supports up to 512GB of unified memory and up to 1.2TB/s of memory bandwidth, a 50% increase over M3 Ultra. Apple says the added memory and bandwidth let users store large datasets locally, increase tokens per second, and run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on device.

The M5 Ultra is exclusively available in the new Mac Studio, which is available for pre-order today, with availability beginning on September 22. Configurations with 512GB of memory launch in late October.

'MacBook Ultra' Coming Soon With Touchscreen and 5 Other Changes

25 Augustus 2026 om 13:43
Reports and rumors suggest the next high-end MacBook Pro that Apple will release might not be a โ€ŒMacBook Proโ€Œ at all. It could actually be something altogether new and more exciting โ€“ a "MacBook Ultra" โ€“ marketed as the company's top-tier laptop offering. The device is likely to sit above the current M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros, rather than replace them, suggesting that they will remain on sale.

One thing to state up front is that Apple is expected to stick with the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for its touchscreen "Ultra" model. Apple reportedly plans to skip what would have been the "M6 Pro" and "M6 Max" for more powerful "M7 Pro" and "M7 Max" chips. A new entry-level โ€ŒMacBook Proโ€Œ with the M6 chip is still expected to launch later this year, while the second-generation MacBook Ultra will adopt M7 chip architecture when it arrives later in 2027.

In his latest report, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman does not specify a release date for the first MacBook Ultra models, but the wording of his summary of upcoming Macs implies that it could still arrive between October and December this year, barring delays due to the global memory chip shortage.

Below, we've listed the features and changes we are expecting for the MacBook Ultra.

OLED Display

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo say Apple is readying OLED technology for these models, and industry reports corroborate their claims. Samsung Display is said to be making the panels exclusively, and the supplier has invested heavily in an 8.6-generation OLED production line in South Korea. The line reached a key milestone for mass production in May.

OLED presents an overall upgrade over the current mini-LED display technology, bringing deeper colors and a higher contrast ratio with true blacks. In an OLED display, individual pixels turn off instead of dimming when not activated, so there's less light leakage and better power efficiency. OLED displays also tend to have better HDR ouptut than mini-LED, but they don't always match mini-LED brightness levels.

Touchscreen

The new โ€ŒMacBook Proโ€Œ is expected to become the first Mac to support touch input directly on the display. It's a notable shift from Apple's longstanding position against bringing touchscreen functionality to the Mac.

Apple previously experimented with touch controls through the OLED Touch Bar on earlier โ€ŒMacBook Proโ€Œ models, but the feature was ultimately discontinued following a lukewarm reception. Rather than positioning the โ€ŒMacBook Proโ€Œ as a touch-centric device like the โ€ŒiPadโ€Œ, Apple is reportedly planning to let users move seamlessly between touch and traditional trackpad or mouse input across the system.

There are features in โ€ŒmacOS Golden Gateโ€Œ that hint at a future touchscreen Mac. Apple added direct touch input to Sidecar so users can tap and interact with macOS elements when using the โ€ŒiPadโ€Œ as a Mac display. macOS Golden Gateโ€Œ also supports an iPhone-style pull-to-refresh option, and it can be used across apps like Safari, Mail, News, Podcasts, and Calendar. A pull-to-refresh option makes the most sense on a touch display.

Reinforced Hinge

Apple has reportedly developed a reinforced hinge and screen hardware to prevent the display from bouncing back or moving when touched. Apple is apparently aware of the same issue that plagues existing touch PCs.

Thinner Design

Gurman has reported that Apple is working to make the OLED MacBook Pro significantly thinner, as part of the company's plan to create "the thinnest and lightest products in their categories across the whole tech industry." (Think the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air โ€“ two of the thinnest devices the company has ever made.) Indeed, the reporter has said there's a good chance that the next MacBook Pro model will represent a "true overhaul" for the laptop, thanks to the combination of the OLED display and thinner design.

Notably, the MacBook Pro got thicker and heavier with its most recent redesign in 2021. A major highlight was the reintroduction of several ports that were removed in previous iterations in favor of chassis thinness. How Apple will make its redesigned MacBook Pro thinner without removing the functionality it reintroduced fairly recently is the big question.

Dynamic Island

The MacBook Ultra could ditch the current notch used in the MacBook Pro models for a display cutout potentially similar to the iPhone's Dynamic Island, according to Bloomberg. Such a move would mirror Apple's iPhone evolution, since the iPhone's notch became the current Dynamic Island starting with the iPhone 14 Pro models in 2022.

As with the iPhoneโ€Œ, the Mac โ€ŒDynamic Islandโ€Œ will be interactive and it will contextually expand based on the app or Mac feature in use. The change should address long-standing user complaints about the notch, which physically ingresses into the macOS menu bar.

Price Changes

There is no doubt that Apple will unveil the MacBook Ultra as an ultra-premium product carrying a price tag that is higher than the current MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models. Apple increased the prices of all its Macs in June 2026 โ€“ MacBook Proโ€Œ pricing went up $300 โ€“ so the MacBook Ultra will likely be even more expensive than expected. โ€Œ

For what it's worth, the higher-end 14-inch โ€ŒMacBook Proโ€Œ with M5 Pro chip starts at $2,499 after the price increase, while the 16-inch M5 Pro โ€ŒMacBook Proโ€Œ starts at $2,999.

iPhone Trade-In Values Slide Ahead of New Model Launch

25 Augustus 2026 om 13:27
Ahead of the announcement of the iPhone 18 Pro, โ€ŒiPhone 18 Proโ€Œ Max, and first foldable iPhone next month, a new study from trade-in comparison site SellCell finds that most iPhones lose a considerable amount of trade-in value in the 10-day window between Apple's announcement and the actual product launch.

Looking at the launch of the iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17 lineups, SellCell found that trade-in values dropped for 117 of 156 models tracked, or 75% of the total, between announcement day and release day. That window saw the steepest declines for the โ€ŒiPhone 17โ€Œ lineup last year, with 50 of 54 iPhone models (92.6%) losing value, with an average drop of $36.46 per device.

The largest individual declines came from older models still on the trade-in market at the time. The โ€ŒiPhone 16โ€Œ Plus 512GB fell from $695 to $566, a $129 drop and the largest loss in the dataset. The iPhone 15 Plus 128GB saw the steepest percentage decline, falling from $440 to $351, a loss of 20.2%.

SellCell paired the pricing data with a survey of 2,000 U.S. iPhone users. 61.4% of respondents said they plan to keep their current iPhone until a replacement is in hand and set up, rather than trading it in around the announcement. The most common reasons cited were needing the phone for continued use and needing to transfer data, which together accounted for 77.4% of responses.

Apple updated and largely increased its own official trade-in estimates last month ahead of the โ€ŒiPhone 18 Proโ€Œ and foldable iPhone announcement.

New iPad Mini With Four Upgrades Expected to Launch by Late October

25 Augustus 2026 om 05:33
Apple is planning to release a new iPad mini model with an OLED display "by the end of October" this year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Apple already updated the iPad Pro with an OLED display in May 2024, but the iPad mini, iPad Air, and entry-level iPad are all still equipped with LCD screens. The move to OLED technology would result in the next iPad mini offering improved image quality, thanks to richer colors and higher contrast ratio with true blacks.

Given that OLED displays are generally more expensive than LCDs, the next iPad mini could have a higher starting price compared to the current model.

Gurman did not provide any other details about the next iPad mini today, but he previously reported that the device would receive a new type of speaker system and increased water resistance. The next iPad mini is also rumored to be powered by either an A19 Pro or A20 chip, up from the A17 Pro chip in the current model.

The current โ€Œmodel launched in October 2024, with the A17 Pro chip enabling Apple Intelligence.

Apple is planning to announce two new AirPods 5 models as early as Wednesday, September 9, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Like the AirPods 4, the AirPods 5 will be available with and without active noise cancellation, he said.

AirPods 5 references were already discovered in macOS 26.7 Release Candidate code last week, and the report said they could be unveiled at this year's iPhone event. There is no word on how the AirPods 5 will differ from the AirPods 4, which launched in September 2024. In the U.S., AirPods 4 are priced at $129 to $179.

New Mac Mini Reportedly Set to Launch Before iPhone 18 Pro Event

25 Augustus 2026 om 04:19
Apple plans to unveil a new Mac mini in the "coming days," according to the latest word from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The new Mac mini will potentially be unveiled before the iPhone 18 Pro event, which is likely to take place on Wednesday, September 9, the report said. Gurman said the new Mac mini will likely be Apple's final new product unveiled before Tim Cook steps down as CEO on September 1, and if so, then it would need to be announced before August ends.

Apple has tested versions of the Mac mini with both M5 and M6 chips, according to Gurman, but it remains unclear which generation of chips Apple ultimately plans to use in the next model. Currently, the Mac mini can be configured with a standard M4 chip or a higher-end M4 Pro chip, 16GB to 48GB of RAM, and up to 8TB of storage.

At the start of May, Apple stopped offering the Mac mini with 256GB of storage for $599, resulting in a 512GB model for $799 becoming the lowest-priced configuration available. Then, in late June, Apple reintroduced the 256GB configuration for $799 after raising prices on all Macs and iPads, the Apple TV, HomePods, and the Vision Pro.

Due to the rising popularity of the Mac mini for on-device AI models, combined with the ongoing memory chip shortage, the Mac mini has been facing extended delivery estimates over the past few months. Currently, the Mac mini has a 4-10 week delivery estimate on Apple's online store in the U.S. depending on the configuration.

In February, Apple announced that Foxconn would begin assembling some Mac mini units at a factory in Houston, Texas later this year. The facility opened this month, with Cook joining U.S. government officials to celebrate the grand opening. So, perhaps Apple's announcement for the new Mac mini will emphasize U.S. assembly.

Siri AI Will Have a Waitlist When iOS 27 Launches

25 Augustus 2026 om 01:37
iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate include Siri AI, Apple's much more capable version of โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ. When the new updates launch, it appears Apple will use a waitlist and limit initial access.

On the MacRumors forums, Mactracker found that the seventh betas of โ€ŒiOS 27โ€Œ, โ€ŒiPadOS 27โ€Œ, and โ€ŒmacOS Golden Gateโ€Œ include waitlist infrastructure.

Apple will use dynamic wait time messages once a user joins the โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ AI waitlist. It looks like Apple will give a clear estimate of the wait, and the company will be able to adjust the wait time readouts server-side based on demand and capacity. Apple will send a notification when โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ AI can be used.

โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ AI had a waitlist during the beta testing period. It took up to a week for some people to get access, but there's no indication yet of how long people might have to wait after the public launch in September.

Home Hub Code Hints at Face-Based Profile Switching

24 Augustus 2026 om 22:53
Apple's upcoming home hub will support multiple profiles and will include "ambient sensing" for identity verification, according to code we found in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 update.

The accessory will show Personal Content for different users in the home, with options to select a profile via Control Center or the Settings app on the device. The home hub is expected to have an operating system similar to tvOS, so the Control Center and profile selection options might look like those on the Apple TV.

It sounds like the home hub can switch between profiles automatically using some combination of cameras and sensors, based on the mentions of ambient sensing. The device is rumored to include cameras and a presence-sensing feature to determine when someone is in the room, so it will be able to tell who is near it and switch profiles appropriately.

Here are some of the code strings.

  • Sorry, I'm not sure who you are. To access your Personal Content, you'll need to select yourself in Control Center.

  • Before I can help with that, you'll need to enable Personal Content. In the Settings app, tap on your name, and turn on Personal Content.

  • I'm not sure who's speaking. Please come in front of this device and ask again.

  • Sorry, since this device hasn't seen you in a while, you'll need to ask again in front of the camera.

  • To access your Personal Content, you'll need to select yourself in Control Center and temporarily allow ambient sensing to verify your identity.

There are also mentions of a wall-mounted version of the home hub, confirming that there will be two models. The other version will include a speaker base.

Rumors suggest the home hub will have a square, 7-inch display. It will run apps and have a main home screen with quick-access widgets. We could see the home hub announced as soon as September.

Apple Won't Change Hide My Email Domain After Backlash

24 Augustus 2026 om 22:17
Apple today said it is reversing its decision and will not change the email domain used for the iCloud+ Hide My Email feature.

Emails sent using Hide My Email will continue to use the same icloud.com domain that Apple uses for standard โ€ŒiCloudโ€Œ emails.

In June, Apple said it would unify the email domains used by Sign in with Apple and Hide My Email under a single private.icloud.com domain. iPhone users expressed concern that moving Hide My Email to a private.icloud.com domain instead of icloud.com would let platforms easily block iCloud aliases. Using the same domain for โ€ŒiCloudโ€Œ and Hide My Email makes it hard for services to block the disposable โ€ŒiCloudโ€Œ addresses because doing so would also block legitimate users.

Apple said after further consideration and reviewing feedback from the community, it will not make the change. Sign in with Apple addresses will be issued through private.icloud.com instead of privaterelay.appleid.com starting later this year. There will be no update for Hide My Email addresses.

Sign in with Apple addresses created before the change will continue to be forwarded without interruption. Apple says developers with apps or websites that use Sign in with Apple should make sure their systems allow the private.icloud.com domain in addition to privaterelay.appleid.com.

Hide My Email is a paid โ€ŒiCloudโ€Œ feature that allows users to generate unique email addresses for each website or service, with options to deactivate and delete those addresses at any time. Hide My Email addresses are forwarded to a user's real email address, which is hidden from the site or service.

Apple Holds Farewell Party for Tim Cook as Ternus Prepares to Take Over

24 Augustus 2026 om 21:58
Tim Cook will step down as Apple's CEO on Tuesday, September 1, and ahead of that date, Apple hosted a farewell party for him. According to The Information, the party took place on August 23, just a day before Cook celebrated his 15th anniversary as Apple CEO.

Approximately 200 people celebrated Cook at the Caffรฉ Macs cafeteria on the Apple campus, and band OneRepublic performed. Several speakers shared tributes to Cook, including Steve Jobs' wife Laurene Powell Jobs, former Apple COO Jeff Williams, Apple services chief Eddy Cue, and incoming CEO John Ternus.

โ€” OneRepublic News (@1RNews) August 24, 2026

Cook is not leaving Apple, despite the party. Next Tuesday, he will become Apple's executive chairman, where he will "assist with certain aspects of the company, including engaging with policymakers around the world." Cook will spend less time in the spotlight in his new role.

Ternus has been at Apple since 2001, serving as senior vice president of hardware engineering since 2021. Apple's September iPhone event will be his first major product launch as CEO.

Insiders at Apple told The Information that continuity is the focus of the transition from Cook to Ternus, with few things to change. Cook's executive assistant will stay on and work for Ternus.

Apple Releases macOS Golden Gate Beta 7

24 Augustus 2026 om 19:35
Apple today provided developers with the seventh beta of macOS Golden Gate, with the update coming a week after Apple seeded the sixth beta.

Developers can download โ€ŒmacOS Golden Gateโ€Œ by going to System Settings > General > Software Update. Beta Updates will need to be enabled, and a free developer account is required.

โ€ŒmacOS Golden Gateโ€Œ includes multiple design improvements. Liquid Glass opacity has been improved to increase readability, there's a slider for controlling the level of transparency, and changes to shadowing make it easier to tell when a window is active. Apps now have uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and less rounded corners, plus there are fewer icons in menu bars.

Siri has been transformed into โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ AI, a chatbot-style assistant that combines general world knowledge, your personal data, and onscreen awareness to answer questions about anything and find information for you. โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ lives in Spotlight, and you can ask questions with the new Search or Ask interface.

There's also a โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ app where you can chat with โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ and view past conversations, and on newer Macs, you can set a custom voice for โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ with personalized pace and expressivity. Visual Intelligence is now on the Mac so โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ can answer questions about what's on your screen, and a Write with โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ feature lets โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ generate text or give feedback on your writing.

There are AI photo editing tools in the Photos app, AI tab organization in Safari, an option to use AI to automatically update weak passwords in the Passwords app, and a revamped Image Playground app that can generate photorealistic images.

More on all of the new features in โ€ŒmacOS Golden Gateโ€Œ can be found in our macOS Golden Gate roundup.

Apple Seeds watchOS 27 Beta 7 to Developers

24 Augustus 2026 om 19:30
Apple today seeded the seventh beta of watchOS 27 to developers, with the update coming a week after the launch of the sixth beta.

The beta can be downloaded through the Watch app on the iPhone with a free developer account. The Apple Watch will need to be on the charger, connected to Wi-Fi, and have a battery level of 50 percent or above for new software to be installed. The beta is available for all Apple Watch models compatible with โ€ŒwatchOS 27โ€Œ except for the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

โ€ŒwatchOS 27โ€Œ gains Siri AI, the smarter, more capable version of โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ. โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ can hold back-and-forth conversations, plus it has access to general world knowledge and your personal data to answer questions and find information. โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ AI on Apple Watch requires an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, including the iPhone 15 Pro and later.

There's a new Dynamic app grid that highlights โ€ŒSiriโ€Œ suggested apps, and more intuitive Smart Stack Suggestions. You can find your parked car, see pinned messages, get noise alerts, and view identity and transit cards.

Liquid Glass has been updated to improve legibility, and Workout Buddy works on the Apple Watch even when an iPhone isn't nearby.
