Google Photos Wardrobe Feature Comes to iOS

24 September 2026 om 22:33
Google today said its digital wardrobe option is available in the Google Photos iOS app in the U.S., India, and Brazil.

Google first announced the feature back in April, but it was limited to Android users until now. The wardrobe option uses AI to pull images of clothing from the Google ‌Photos‌ library, organizing them into a digital closet.

Users can put items together to create outfits and virtually try them on.

The app shows clothing items in a new Wardrobe section in the Collections tab. Clothing can also be viewed in specific categories like tops or bottoms. Items of clothing can be mixed and matched, and the results can be shared with friends or saved to a moodboard.

Google ‌Photos‌ is also getting 15 new templates for Remix, a feature that uses AI to transform images.

Dirk Eddelbuettel: RcppFastAD 0.0.5 on CRAN: Maintenance

24 September 2026 om 21:13

A new release 0.0.5 of the RcppFastAD package is now on CRAN, has been built for r2u, and updated at r-universe. This comes (to the day) two years after the preceding 0.0.4 release.

RcppFastAD wraps the FastAD header-only C++ library by James which provides a C++ implementation of both forward and reverse mode of automatic differentiation. It offers an easy-to-use header library that is both lightweight and performant. With a little of bit of Rcpp glue, it is also easy to use from R in simple C++ applications. This release updates the continuous integration setup as one does, adds a local configuration helper to quieten compilation (described also in this blog post). It also adds a defensive setting for g++: Under recent g++ versions and optimisation at least the -O3 level, segfaults are seen as something is not quite right with (temporary) “views” of Eigen objects in code generated by this versions. Others are fine, as is clang++. We have not gotten to the bottom of it, but setting -g0 seems to ensure that builds generally work.

The NEWS file for this release follows.

Changes in version 0.0.5 (2026-09-24)

  • Several routine updates to continuous integration have been made

  • Local builds (where a .git/ directory is seen) now append silencing compiler option that CRAN would object to

  • Given recent issues with g++ under optimization, debugging is turned off by default.

Courtesy of my CRANberries, there is also a diffstat report for the most recent release. More information is available at the repository or the package page.

This post by Dirk Eddelbuettel originated on his Thinking inside the box blog. If you like this or other open-source work I do, you can now sponsor me at GitHub.

watchOS 27.2 Code Hints at iPhone-Style Screenshot Previews

24 September 2026 om 19:36
watchOS 27.2 could introduce a feature that lets Apple Watch screenshots be previewed with options to share or delete, similar to how screenshots work on the iPhone.

Signs of the feature were found in watchOS 27.2 by code explorer pdfu. The option is hidden behind a feature flag that's not enabled, but it could be introduced in a later watchOS 27.2 beta.

A new screenshot experience is coming to Apple Watch, inspired by iPhone.

Hidden behind a feature flag in watchOS 27.2, it lets you preview, share, or delete a screenshot right after taking it. pic.twitter.com/MT5wmDjRnq

— pdfu (@itspdfu) September 24, 2026

Right now, taking a screenshot on the Apple Watch sends it directly to the iPhone Photos app with no confirmation screen. It's easy to accidentally take a screenshot since it only requires pressing the Digital Crown and side button at the same time.

On the iPhone, taking a screenshot shows either a full-screen preview or a thumbnail preview depending on your settings, but both options let you save, share, or delete the screenshot with a couple taps.

Screenshots on Apple Watch are disabled by default but can be turned on through the Settings app on the watch or the Apple Watch app on iPhone. An option to save or delete screenshots would add more control than a simple on or off toggle.

24 September 2026 om 19:14
The new Beats 360 headphones are available for purchase at many Apple Stores around the world as of today. Retailers like Best Buy and Target also have some stock available in stores.

Apple's Beats brand announced the headphones earlier this week after teasing them for several months. The Beats 360 are over-ear headphones with a design similar to the AirPods Max and interchangeable ear cushions so you can swap colors.

Compared with the Beats Studio Pro, the Beats 360 have up to 1.75x more noise cancellation and improved sound quality. Features like Personalized Spatial Audio, Transparency mode, and Adaptive EQ are supported, as are fast pairing and automatic device switching. They have IPX4 sweat and water resistance, making them suitable for the gym.

The Beats 360 work with two kinds of cushions. The Performance Knit memory foam cushions are breathable and meant for working out, while the UltraPlush cushions have a softer, more pillowy feel. The Beats 360 ship with the Performance Knit cushions, and the UltraPlush can be purchased separately.

Beats 360 are priced at $349.99, and for a limited time, Apple is selling add-on ear cushions for a discounted $9.99 price through October 31. Headphone colors include Black, Cloud, Pink, and Sky. Apple Shares New Video Promoting iOS 27 Parental Controls

24 September 2026 om 18:58
Apple today shared a video promoting the new parental control features it added in iOS 27.

Apple says Child Accounts are easier to set up in ‌iOS 27‌ and more intuitive to use. Improved controls allow parents to choose the types of apps children have access to, while Ask to Buy lets kids request new apps and games.

Ask to Browse gives parents a way to block or allow the websites children visit in Safari, plus parents can decide who kids can call and message. Communication Safety in Messages and FaceTime detects and blocks both violence and nudity in images and videos.

Time Allowances and Schedules let parents customize what children can access by the day, hour, and activity, with options to limit apps during school hours. There are one-tap controls to pause access entirely during family events like dinnertime or allow unlimited screen time.

Apple's updated parental controls come as the company deals with regulatory pressure over child safety in countries like the UK, U.S., and Australia. The UK has called for device-level controls that keep kids from viewing and sharing inappropriate images, while the U.S. Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act is now in the Senate. Australia has already prohibited children under 16 from creating accounts on certain social media apps.

Apple's new child safety features became available on September 14 with the launch of ‌iOS 27‌, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate. Every device in a Family Sharing group needs to be running the latest software for the Screen Time update to work.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 vs. Ultra 4 Buyer's Guide: Should You Upgrade?

24 September 2026 om 17:55
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 arrives three years after the Ultra 2. Across those two generations, Apple added satellite connectivity, a larger display, new health sensors, and longer battery life. Are those changes enough to justify replacing an Ultra 2 or paying more for the newest model?

Both watches retain a 49mm titanium case, an Action button, a siren, a 3,000-nit display, dual-frequency GPS, and support for recreational diving to 40 meters. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799 in the U.S. Apple has discontinued the Ultra 2, although its refurbished store currently lists it from $589. Here are the key differences between the two models:

Is It Worth Upgrading From Ultra 2 to Ultra 4?

Most Apple Watch Ultra 2 owners should keep their watch if its battery still covers their usual days and workouts. It supports watchOS 27 and ‌Siri‌ AI, and continues to get new features through software updates.

The new Health Sensing System is the strongest reason to upgrade an Ultra 4. It measures heart rate every five seconds throughout the day and collects HRV data more frequently, enabling Recovery HRV, daytime Vitals, and the Readiness app. If you will use those insights to adjust your training or better understand changes in your daily condition, the ‌Apple Watch Ultra 4‌ offers a substantially improved health-tracking experience.

The S11 chip strengthens the case to upgrade. Alongside twice the memory, it enables more accurate all-day step counts, a Steps complication, and Audio Intelligence. Sound Recognition can alert you to important surrounding sounds on your wrist, while music recognition can identify songs automatically.

Satellite connectivity and longer battery life add further reasons to switch, especially if you spend time beyond cellular coverage or record long workouts. Apple's ratings increase from 36 to 50 hours of normal use and from 12 to 18 hours of standard outdoor workout tracking. The slightly larger display and faster charging are welcome improvements, but the new sensing and chip-enabled features make the bigger difference.

Should You Buy an Ultra 2 or Ultra 4?

For most people buying an Apple Watch Ultra now, future-proofing is the strongest reason to choose the latest model. Its S11 chip, 4GB of RAM, and Health Sensing System already enable Readiness, more detailed recovery metrics, and Audio Intelligence features. Live Rewind and ‌Siri‌ Recap are due later in 2026. If you plan to keep your watch for several years through successive software updates, that newer hardware makes the $799 model easier to justify.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 remains a credible value option at a substantial discount. At Apple's current $589 refurbished price, it costs $210 less than a new Ultra 4 while retaining the same design and core features. Choose it if those existing capabilities meet your needs and you are comfortable passing up the Ultra 4's hardware-exclusive features.

Qualcomm Announces Renewed Agreement With Apple

24 September 2026 om 15:39
Qualcomm today announced the renewal of its global patent licensing agreement with Apple, effective April 1, 2027. No further details were provided.

This patent agreement is separate from Qualcomm's agreement to supply Apple with cellular modems for smartphone launches through 2026, so we expect Apple's transition to its own custom-designed modems to continue. Among the latest iPhone models, only the U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max still has a Qualcomm modem.

The smaller iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo are equipped with Apple's C2 modem worldwide, as is the iPhone 18 Pro Max in all countries beyond the U.S., while cellular models of the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air use Apple's previous-generation C1X modem.

Following a legal battle, Apple and Qualcomm reached a settlement that included a six-year patent licensing agreement beginning April 1, 2019. A two-year extension option was exercised, pushing the agreement's expiry date to March 31, 2027. Reuters reported that another two-year extension option was available, so it is possible the agreement now runs through March 31, 2029, but the length of the latest extension was not disclosed.

Full iPhone 4 'Antennagate' Q&A Video Surfaces After 16 Years

24 September 2026 om 14:39
A 47-minute video of the Q&A session from Apple's 2010 iPhone 4 "antennagate" press conference has surfaced on YouTube, showing Steve Jobs, Tim Cook, and Bob Mansfield answering reporters' questions.

The recording was highlighted by Daring Fireball's John Gruber, who attended the event. Apple called the July 16, 2010 press conference amid complaints that holding the iPhone 4 in a particular way could reduce its cellular signal.

Jobs used his prepared presentation to announce free cases for eligible customers and a 30-day return option. Apple later posted video of that presentation, but left out the Q&A, which was documented at the time through written reports and photographs.

Among the exchanges now visible is a question from Gruber at about 18:45 asking whether the three executives used cases on their own iPhone 4s. Jobs, Cook, and Mansfield each hold up an uncased phone. Jobs later gives a lengthy answer about what Apple learned from the controversy, including why the company waited to gather more data before holding the press conference.

Near the end of the recording, Jobs explains Apple's strategy of owning or controlling the core technology behind its products, and why the growing importance of software made that approach valuable for consumer electronics. Gruber says he does not know where the recording came from or why it has surfaced only now.

Meta Did a 'One More Thing' and It's an AI Tamagotchi

24 September 2026 om 10:54
Apple has reportedly shelved plans to launch an AI pendant, while Meta appears to be going all out in the nascent hardware space with a new handheld AI companion. Mark Zuckerberg used his "one more thing" moment at the company's annual Connect event on Wednesday to unveil the Muse Charm, a puck about the size of an Apple Watch featuring a tamagotchi-like, interactive avatar that can be used to chat with the company's Muse AI.

"Muse Charm is a delightful and fun device built for you to talk and interact with your Muse. It brings the power of Muse with a state of the art real-time voice model into a device that fits in your pocket.

"We packed the whole Muse experience, including the whole real-time voice and avatar stack, into something that fits on a keychain and is always available to talk to. You just go ahead and tap here in the fingerprint sensor in the corner, and you can start talking without having to unlock a phone or open an app.

"So if you're not wearing glasses, this is going to be by far the fastest way to talk to your Muse and to show what's going on around you."

We'll have more to share later this year."
That's all we got about the device, which Meta is aiming to have on sale by the holiday season.

Otherwise, Connect was mostly about the company's new Meta VR Glasses. They have a tethered puck for the storage and battery, and the headset is five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3 at 100 grams, with full-color passthrough video support and a 5K display. (For context, M5 Apple Vision Pro weighs 750–800 grams depending on the configuration.)

Meta says the glasses will offer "cinema-grade clarity" with support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos spatial audio, and they can deliver up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback on a single charge.

The device runs every game available for Quest headsets, and supports Xbox Cloud Gaming. You can also connect it to a PC or Mac and control things with a virtual keyboard and trackpad on a desk. Meta VR Glasses are set to launch in the spring with a $1,300 starting price.

Meanwhile, in an apparent bid to throw off the "pervert glasses" label, Meta also announced an audio-only version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses. The new model supports media playback and calls, and runs for up to 12 hours on a single charge, while the charging case adds up to 48 hours of battery life. Pre-orders are open and the glasses ship on October 13, starting at $349.

Meta hasn't abandoned its camera-equipped Ray-Ban smart glasses, though. Far from it. The company is refreshing its Ray-Ban Meta with a slimmer design and a button that activates Meta AI. The third-generation model is said to have a longer nine hours of battery life (versus eight on the second-gen model) and a new six-microphone array that the company says can cut out over 90 percent of background noise. The 12MP camera supports 3K video capture, with Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio support coming soon. There are multiple styles to choose from, and prices start at $449.

Meta's AI Glasses are also getting a new FDA-cleared hearing enhancement feature later this year. Users can access it as part of a Meta One subscription, or they can pay a one-time cost of $149. A 30-day free trial will also be available.

iPhone Handoff in iOS 27: How It Works, Pricing, and Carrier Support

24 September 2026 om 08:25
Apple in iOS 27 introduced iPhone Handoff, a new eSIM feature that allows you to use the same number on two iPhones and seamlessly swap between them. The number is only active on one iPhone at a time, so it's not like having two independently active lines.

It's also different from Apple's existing Handoff feature for continuing an app task on another Apple device. Here's what you need to know about the new iPhone Handoff feature.

What Moves Between the Two iPhones?

When you switch phones with iPhone Handoff, your calls, voicemail, messages (including iMessage, RCS, SMS, and MMS) and Find My location move to the active iPhone. You'll see a "Switched to this iPhone" message on the screen to confirm the change.

Other data synced with iCloud will automatically update across your devices, and third-party apps work across both devices, though some third-party apps may require a separate sign-in or take time to sync. Any banking apps you use may also ask you to approve access on the other device.

What Do You Need for iPhone Handoff?

Both iPhones must be running iOS 27 or later. They'll also need to be:
  • Connected to Wi-Fi

  • Sharing the same Apple Account

  • Using Messages in iCloud for messages sync

  • Signed into FaceTime and iMessage with the same Apple Account
iPhone Handoff works with Dual SIM as long as both eSIMs are from carriers that support iPhone Handoff. Both eSIMs must be set up for iPhone Handoff separately, one at a time. Once set up, both eSIMs switch together simultaneously when you unlock your iPhone.

Which Carriers Support iPhone Handoff?

iPhone Handoff is available through T-Mobile in the United States and Telekom in Germany. Verizon (U.S.) and EE (U.K.) will support iPhone Handoff later this year.

AT&T has so far not committed to supporting iPhone Handoff, with a company spokesperson recently pointing to the carrier's existing eSIM activation and transfer options instead.

How Much Does iPhone Handoff Cost?

T-Mobile is charging customers $5 per month to use iPhone Handoff.

In Germany, Deutsche Telekom is charging €6.95 per month for iPhone Handoff, but only on plans that do not already include multi-SIM functionality. An added multi-SIM costs €6.95 per month (one is included with the current MagentaMobil L plan and two with XL).

No other carriers have announced pricing yet.

How Do You Set It Up?

iPhone Handoff can be enabled when setting up a new iPhone. At the "Set Up Cellular" screen, choose "Use Number on This iPhone and Another," then follow the prompts on both phones.

If both iPhones are already set up, open Settings ➝ Cellular on the phone you want to add. Tap Set Up Cellular or Add eSIM, choose Use Number on This iPhone and Another, and follow the prompts. You then get to choose which device is your main iPhone (ideally, the one you use most often) and which is your secondary iPhone.

After setup, unlock either phone to make your number active on it.

What Should You Know Before Switching?

If you have an Apple Watch, it won't switch its pairing to the other device when your phone number moves, so make sure you pair it with the iPhone you expect to use most. Also, some Wallet items, including certain transit passes and IDs, may only work on one device at a time.

Carrier account management and some services like Call Forwarding and Caller ID will remain tied to your main iPhone.

Can I Replace an iPhone That Uses iPhone Handoff?

Yes, but you need to transfer the eSIM from either iPhone to the replacement device. The below steps should be followed while your new iPhone is placed next to your existing devices that use iPhone Handoff.

  1. On your new iPhone (replacement), open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Cellular and then tap Set up Cellular or Add eSIM.

  3. Select an iPhone and tap Continue.

  4. Tap Transfer. (If your carrier doesn't support eSIM transfer from a companion iPhone, you must enroll in iPhone Handoff again: On your iPhone that you are transferring the eSIM from, tap Continue, and follow the onscreen prompts.)

  5. Tap Continue.

  6. Follow the onscreen prompts on both devices.

The eSIM will deactivate on the old iPhone you transferred from.

What If I Want to Stop Using iPhone Handoff?

If you want to stop using iPhone Handoff at any time, you need to contact your carrier. Simply deleting an eSIM from your iPhone may not stop the carrier from charging you for the service.

ChatGPT in Siri 'Persistently Underperforming,' Says OpenAI

24 September 2026 om 02:15
OpenAI saw disappointing results working with Apple to integrate ChatGPT in Siri, according to court documents filed [PDF] in its ongoing legal fight with Elon Musk's company SpaceXAI (xAI at the time the lawsuit was filed).

Apple added ChatGPT to ‌Siri‌ in December 2024, but users had to go through a multistep opt-in process, which added a layer of friction. By January 2025, OpenAI said the integration was "off to a slow start" and the company cut its forecast for the number of incremental logged-in weekly active users that it expected to get from the partnership.

Much of the filing is redacted, but OpenAI said that by the time Musk's companies filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, "it was clear that Apple's integration of ChatGPT was dramatically underperforming." In a later section of the filing, OpenAI said again that the Apple integration was "persistently underperforming," leading to a March 2026 conversation between Apple and OpenAI that is redacted.

OpenAI asked Apple for a two-year exclusivity period, but Apple refused. The agreement between the two companies explicitly said the deal was non-exclusive and Apple had the right to "integrate products or services that provide the same or similar functionality as [ChatGPT]." Apple told OpenAI that it planned to integrate one provider and then add more, and it made similar statements publicly when announcing the feature. Apple also signed a deal with Google, and Apple's newest models are based on Gemini.

OpenAI's filing disputes many of the claims in the xAI lawsuit. Musk alleged OpenAI and Apple had an exclusive deal and that the agreement harmed xAI's growth and customer acquisition. OpenAI says the contract proves there was no exclusive deal, and even if there were, xAI can't prove harm because the ChatGPT ‌Siri‌ integration just didn't draw many new ChatGPT users.
Even if the Court assumes that Apple users who elect to use ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence are foreclosed from OpenAI's rivals (which they are not), the amount of foreclosure caused by the Agreement is indisputably de minimis. While Plaintiffs' experts declined to calculate foreclosure shares, OpenAI's expert, Dr. Catherine Tucker, calculated the share of GenAI consumers who accessed ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence across multiple metrics using the same data and market definition relied upon by Plaintiffs' experts. On these assumptions, Dr. Tucker found foreclosure shares of [REDACTED] across all metrics, consistent with OpenAI's internal view that Apple Intelligence saw minimal usage.

Musk's companies dropped their claims against Apple earlier this month, leaving OpenAI as the sole defendant in the lawsuit. OpenAI's filing asks the court to toss out xAI's claims prior to the trial planned for January 2027.

You Can Now Try Apple's Unreleased Copland OS in Your Browser

23 September 2026 om 23:27
In the mid–1990s, Apple worked on an operating system called Copland, which was announced but never commercially released because of project management issues and feature creep. Parts of Copland were eventually included in Mac OS 7.6 and Mac OS 8, but it was so problematic as a whole that Apple nixed it before it was finished.

Michael Steil, who works to reverse engineer vintage hardware and software, was recently able to get Copland running in emulation. He modified the open-source Power Mac emulator DingusPPC, and he said it took 11 patches to get Copland up and running. He has a browser version of Copland you can try on his website, and shared the patches needed to boot Copland.

During Copland's development, Apple released three beta versions. The last beta was D11E4, which is what Steil got to work. He said Copland is "notoriously hard to run on real hardware," and wasn't previously available in emulation.

After Apple canceled Copland in August 1996, it looked outside the company for a new operating system. That led to the purchase of NeXT in 1997 and the return of Steve Jobs. NeXTSTEP, NeXT's operating system, was the precursor to Mac OS X.

Introducing the next Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch with Snapdragon X2 Plus: Greater performance that travels light

Door: cstewart
23 September 2026 om 22:30
Today at Snapdragon Summit, we introduced the next Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch, built on the Snapdragon X2 Plus® processor, alongside the new Surface Mouse with integrated haptic feedback1. Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch are two of our most versatile Surface devices, designed to deliver the performance and battery life people need in PCs they can comfortably carry all day. This generation brings up to 18% more efficient battery performance2, over 60% faster graphics3, and 95% faster on-device AI4 — all in the same lightweight design.

What defines Surface laptops?

Surface is hardware built to bring the best of Microsoft to life — Windows, Copilot, and Microsoft 365 experiences that make a PC feel more useful, more personal and more responsive.  That work starts long before the chip is finished. Surface engineers partner with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. during silicon development to help make sure Snapdragon X2 is tuned for the realities of thin, light PCs: sustained performance, efficient power use, quiet thermals and responsive on-device AI.  It’s the innovation role Surface has always played: turning what’s possible in Windows into products people can hold, carry and use every day. We did it with touch, pen5, and haptics. We’re doing it now with AI on the PC. With Snapdragon X2 Series and Windows, you shouldn't have to choose where that AI runs. Supported experiences can use the device, the cloud, or both, so you get lower latency, less dependence on cloud calls and tokens, and more privacy when your data stays with you.  The result is more than a processor upgrade. Compared to previous generations, Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch with Snapdragon X2 Plus offer:
  • Up to 17% faster in Office productivity workloads6,7
  • Up to 18% more efficient battery performance8
  • More than 60% faster graphics performance2,9
  • Up to 95% faster local AI inferencing on the NPU3,8
Peak numbers only tell part of the story. What matters is hour six — twenty tabs, a call running, something rendering — and the machine still calm and quiet in your hands.  Surface Device Showcase

Surface Pro 12-inch: big ideas start here

Surface Pro 12-inch is the most portable and versatile Surface Pro we make — a thin, light and fanless Windows PC that moves from tablet to laptop as quickly as your day changes. Attach Surface Pro 12-inch Keyboard to write, code or respond to email. Pick up the magnetically stored Surface Slim Pen when an idea is easier to sketch than type.5 With Snapdragon X2 Plus, Pro feels more responsive for everyday work like summarizing notes, editing photos and annotating designs, and adds an extra hour of active web browsing10. A 25% brighter, 500-nit PixelSense™ touchscreen and new Black color bring more clarity and choice11, while an enclosure made with 86% recycled content reflects the craft behind a design built for wherever work moves.12 Surface Pro 12-inch starts at $1149.99 MSRP, available starting October 13 in select markets. Microsoft Ink Canvas Surface Pro 12-inch introduces Microsoft Ink Canvas, an AI-powered, pen-first experience for sketching, annotating, generating images and summarizing text directly on the canvas. Built for the moments before an idea becomes a document or prompt, Ink Canvas lets customers use Slim Pen to express intent visually, spatially and in their own handwriting — giving Copilot richer context and helping rough thoughts become useful creations faster.5 Ink Canvas will be pre-installed on the new Pro 12-inch, and will also be available to download from the Microsoft Store on other supported Surface and Windows devices on October 13.13 Surface Laptop

Surface Laptop 13-inch: think big, travel light

Surface Laptop 13-inch is the classic Surface laptop refined — a thin, light Windows PC built around the details that people notice every day: a full-size backlit keyboard, precision touchpad, premium aluminum body and taller 3:2 PixelSense™ touchscreen.14,16 Snapdragon X2 Plus keeps everyday experiences feeling smooth, whether you’re streaming a movie or designing a presentation. With a 25% brighter, 500-nit display, 22.5 hours of battery life15 and a new Black color9, Surface Laptop is designed to feel polished, personal and easy to carry every day. Surface Laptop 13-inch starts at $1,199 MSRP, available starting October 13th in select markets. Surface Mouse

Surface Mouse: feedback you can feel

We also introduced Surface Mouse, a new mouse designed to make everyday interactions feel more precise. Its haptic feedback adds a small, purposeful physical response to the moment you usually only see on a screen: a click registering, a window snapping into place or an object aligning just right. It is subtle by design, but noticeable within seconds — and hard to give up once you have it. Surface Mouse brings a redesigned ambidextrous shape for comfortable all-day use, a customizable action button for Copilot16 and everyday shortcuts, and Bluetooth 6.0 so you can pair with multiple devices and move between them easily. It’s also made with 30% recycled content, including the most post-consumer recycled plastic of any Surface mouse.17 Surface Mouse starts at $79.99 and will be available in Black and Platinum beginning October 13th in select markets.

Built for business, ready for AI

Surface Pro 12-inch, Surface Laptop 13-inch and Surface Mouse will also be available to commercial customers through Surface for Business beginning October 13. Pro 12-inch will also offer an optional 5G configuration18 — one of the most requested additions to this form factor — helping mobile teams stay connected without relying on public Wi-Fi. Across both PCs, Snapdragon X2 Plus gives organizations a consistent foundation for supported local AI experiences.  Security and manageability are built in from chip to cloud. Microsoft-designed protections include Secured-core PC safeguards, Microsoft Pluton with TPM 2.0, and Surface UEFI built with Secure Patina Core and Project Mu open-source components available through the Open Device Partnership. Surface Tools for Business — including Surface Management Portal, Surface Support Portal, Surface IT Toolkit and Surface Repair Tool — help IT teams manage, protect, support and recover devices throughout their lifecycle.  Together, these devices extend the Surface for Business lineup with thin, light Windows PCs and accessories built for mobility, AI and modern endpoint management.

Find your next Surface at Microsoft Store

Choose Surface Pro 12-inch if you want one device that moves from tablet to laptop, with pen-first flexibility for notes, sketches and ideas in motion. iOS 27.0.1 is Coming Soon

23 September 2026 om 22:06
After releasing iOS 27 last week, Apple is already testing a follow-up iOS 27.0.1 update for iPhones, according to MacRumors logs.

iOS 27.0.1 will likely be a minor update with bug fixes and/or security patches.

Shortly after Apple launches new iPhone models, some software bugs are usually discovered as the devices get into the hands of millions of customers around the world. This year, some iPhone 18 Pro users are experiencing Face ID issues, so it is likely that iOS 27.0.1 will include some Face ID-related bug fixes or enhancements at a minimum.

watchOS 27.0.1 is already available for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. That update fixes an issue where those models may restart unexpectedly.

We do not know exactly when iOS 27.0.1 will be released to the public, but keep an eye out for the update over the next few days or weeks.

Disney+ and Hulu Raise Prices Again, Ad-Free Plans Now $21.49

23 September 2026 om 21:20
Disney today increased the prices on several of its Disney+ and Hulu streaming plans, with the increase coming exactly one year after Disney's last price hike.

Premium ad-free plans are $2 to $2.50 more expensive per month, while Disney's ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu plans are $0.50 higher per month. The ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu bundle has not changed in price, and that's what Disney is steering customers toward.

  • Disney+ (Ads) - $12.49, up from $11.99

  • Disney+ (No Ads) - $21.49, up from $18.99

  • Hulu (Ads) - $12.49, up from $11.99

  • Hulu (No Ads) - $21.49, up from $18.99

  • Disney+, Hulu Bundle (Ads) - $12.99, no change

  • Disney+, Hulu Bundle (No Ads) - $21.99, up from $19.99

  • Disney+, ESPN, Hulu Bundle (Ads) - $21.99, up from $19.99

  • Disney+ (No Ads), Hulu (No Ads), ESPN Select (Ads) - $32.99, up from $29.99

  • Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max Basic (Ads) - $21.99, up from $19.99

  • Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max Basic (No Ads) - $34.99, up from $32.99

Bundles with ESPN or HBO Max are also $2 to $3 more expensive. Buying a standalone Disney+ or Hulu plan is just $0.50 cheaper per month than getting a bundle, both with ads and without. Disney is pushing bundles because it has been merging Hulu content into the Disney+ app to create an all-in-one experience.

When Disney+ launched in November 2019, it was priced at $6.99 per month. It did not have ads at the time, with Disney introducing its first ad-supported plan in 2022. Pricing for the no-ad option has increased more than 200% in nearly seven years.

Apple's streaming TV service launched right around the same time as Disney+ for $4.99 per month. Today, the Apple TV service is $14.99 per month, also a 200% increase. Other streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max raise prices regularly too.

Disney's higher prices go into effect for new subscribers today, and for existing subscribers on their next monthly bill.

Siri AI Coming to HomePod

23 September 2026 om 19:04
Apple's smarter, more capable version of Siri is expanding to the HomePod, according to details found by code sleuth pdfu. According to pdfu, ‌HomePod‌ Software 27 includes the system behind ‌Siri‌ AI, called "Linwood," along with new status lights in the ‌Siri‌ AI colors.

Since ‌HomePod‌ Software 27 is out and ‌Siri‌ AI isn't available on existing HomePods, it's possible support will be limited to new ‌HomePod‌ models.

Rumors suggest Apple is working on an updated HomePod mini, and the main upgrade will be a faster processor. Apple is expected to equip it with an S9 chip or newer, and it's possible the ‌HomePod mini‌ could even get the latest S11 chip that's in the Apple Watch Series 12.

The Apple Watch Series 9 and later support ‌Siri‌ AI, though a connected iPhone with Apple Intelligence is required for the ‌Siri‌ functionality. The next ‌HomePod mini‌ models are expected to work in the same way, offering some ‌Siri‌ AI and ‌Apple Intelligence‌ features when used with a compatible iPhone.

The ‌HomePod mini‌ isn't expected to get a redesign, but along with an updated processor, Apple could add its N1 networking chip, a newer Ultra Wideband chip, and updated colors.

The Apple TV 4K is also expected to get a processor capable of supporting ‌Siri‌ AI, and Apple is working on a dedicated home hub with ‌Siri‌ AI integration. All of the new products, ‌HomePod mini‌ included, could launch as soon as October. Apple is also working on an updated full-size ‌HomePod‌, but it isn't clear when it will launch.

At every storage capacity the Air and ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ share, the Pro costs $100 more when bought from Apple in the U.S.:

256GB512GB1TB2TB
‌iPhone Air‌$1,099$1,299$1,699
‌iPhone 18 Pro‌$1,199$1,399$1,799$2,399
‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ Max$1,299$1,499$1,899$2,499

At Apple's current prices, the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ is clearly the stronger choice for most buyers. It costs just $100 more than the Air at every shared storage capacity, yet adds excellent Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras, a variable-aperture main camera, longer battery life, stereo speakers, faster charging, vapor chamber cooling, a newer chip, and more.

The ‌iPhone Air‌ makes a stronger case in the hand than it does on a specification sheet. It is 46 grams lighter than the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌, has a slightly larger display, and feels unlike any other iPhone. With its polished titanium frame and frosted glass back, it looks more classy and premium than the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ in many respects. If appearance, thinness, weight shape how much you enjoy using a phone every day, choosing the Air can be worthwhile despite its camera, speaker, and battery limitations. The Pro Max offers a 6.9-inch screen and even longer battery life, but weighs 84 grams more than the Air.

Retail pricing can change that calculation. The Air has seen substantial discounts, including an unlocked 256GB model for $899.99 earlier this year. If you find a new ‌iPhone Air‌ for around $900 while the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ remains $1,199, the roughly $300 saving makes the Air much more compelling if you can live with one rear camera and shorter battery life.

Timing matters, too. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects the next ‌iPhone Air‌ in spring 2027, and an Ultra Wide camera has reportedly reached advanced testing. Analyst Jeff Pu expects a smaller Dynamic Island and A20 Pro chip. Separately, leaker "Digital Chat Station" has claimed it will have a 3,500mAh battery, up from the current model's 3,149mAh, while The Information has reported that it could gain vapor chamber cooling. If the current Air's camera, battery life, or sustained performance gives you pause, waiting could address those concerns; a steep discount is more persuasive if the current model already meets your needs.

20 September 2026 om 02:00

The Debian LTS Team, funded by Freexian’s Debian LTS offering, is pleased to report its activities for August.

Activity summary

During the month of August, 19 contributors have been paid to work on Debian LTS (links to individual contributor reports are located below).

The team released 58 DLAs fixing 1885 CVEs.

Debian 11 (“bullseye”), which has reached the end of its Long Term Support on 31 August 2026, will now get security support from Freexian under the Extended LTS offer.

The team published several notable updates:

  • chromium (DLA 4710-1), uploaded by Emilio, to fix 375 security flaws in bookworm, including issues that could lead to arbitrary code execution. Further DLA 4728-1, uploaded by Emilio as well, fixed additional 41 security issues in bookworm and DLA 4739-1 fixed 5 issues. Last but not least, DLA 4749-1 fixed another 15 issues and DLA 4758-1 fixed another 7 issues.
  • ruby2.7 (DLA 4716-1), uploaded by Abhijith, to fix four security flaws in bookworm, including issues that could lead to arbitrary code execution.
  • several DLAs (DLA 4717-1, DLA 4720-1, DLA 4723-1, DLA 4724-1, DLA 4745-1) have been uploaded by Ben and Emilio to fix myriad security flaws in different versions of the linux kernel (5.10.262-1, 6.1.180-1, 6.12.100-1~deb12u1, 6.12.101-1~deb12u1) in bullseye and bookworm.
  • 7zip (DLA 4718-1) and p7zip (DLA 4719-1), uploaded by Sylvain, to fix multiple security flaws in bookworm and bullseye, including issues that could yield to remote code execution.
  • ca-certificates (DLA 4726-1), uploaded by Bastien to add some new trusted certificates to bookworm and bullseye, but also remove some untrusted ones.
  • thunderbird (DLA 4727-1 and DLA 4754-1), uploaded by Emilio to fix 35 and 31 issues in bookworm and bullseye.
  • nss (DLA 4729-1), uploaded by Jochen to fix a vulnerability in bookworm and bullseye that could yield to arbitrary code execution.

  • xorg-server (DLA 4737-1 and DLA 4738-1), uploaded by Arnaud to fix several vulnerabilities in bookworm and bullseye.
  • postgresql-15 (DLA 4740-1), uploaded by Carlos Henrique Lima Melara to fix 26 vulnerabilities in bookworm.
  • unzip (DLA 4741-1), uploaded by Andrej to fix a vulnerability in bookworm and bullseye that could yield to arbitrary code execution.
  • firefox-esr (DLA 4750-1), uploaded by Emilio to fix 31 vulnerabilities in bookworm and bullseye that could potentially result in arbitrary code execution, privilege escalation or information disclosure.
  • nvidia-graphics-drivers (DLA 4752-1 and DLA 4753-1), uploaded by Tobias to fix lots of vulnerabilities in bookworm and bullseye.
  • roundcube (DLA 4760-1), uploaded by Guilhem to fix ten vulnerabilities in bookworm and bullseye that could potentially result in remote code execution or information disclosure.

Contributions from outside the LTS Team:

We are greatly thankful for the contributions from people outside the LTS Team:

  • Salvatore Bonaccorso released a libyaml-syck-perl security update (DLA 4730-1), to fix a denial of service and potentially arbitrary code execution.
  • Thomas Goirand released a neutron security update (DLA 4735-1).
  • Thomas Goirand released an ironic security update (DLA 4743-1).
  • Thomas Goirand released a designate security update (DLA 4751-1), to fix a denial of service or DNS hijacking.

The LTS Team has also contributed with updates to the latest Debian releases:

  • xrdp (DSA 6469-1), prepared by Abhijith to address privilege escalation and arbitrary code execution related flaws.

Other contributions:

Besides the work on security updates, different documentation and tooling changes were needed. This work was mainly done by Sylvain.
